Bill Grimsey partners with retail trends and strategy consultancy GDR Creative Intelligence to drive home his vision of how to save the British high street
We’re delighted to announce that we’ve joined forces with retail veteran Bill Grimsey to bolster his crusade to save Britain’s high streets.
Earlier this summer the former Iceland and Wickes CEO released the long awaited follow-up to the 2013 Grimsey Review, which sets out a community-focused vision to re-energise declining high streets. The collaboration allows Bill to use GDR’s global analysis and real-world case studies to contextualise his structural and economic recommendations.
“Town centres and high streets can no longer rely on retail as the anchor. Town centres have to be about people, not just retail” said Bill Grimsey. “We have to reinvent them for the community by bringing in things like heritage, health, education, entertainment and leisure alongside retail. I’m delighted to be working with GDR because we share a very clear vision of the future.
“By combining our knowledge and our thinking, we can show that the changes I’m proposing are not pie in the sky, but actionable and achievable solutions that are already producing rewards in thriving retail centres around the world.”
GDR Creative Intelligence has been working with leading global brands for the last 20 years to help them understand the shifting consumer landscape and make strategic plans for the future. Founder and CEO Kate Ancketill said: “We are tremendously excited to be working with Bill. He has an unrivalled knowledge of the UK retail scene and the issues it is facing. And he also shares our passion for the high street.
“While we acknowledge that retail is at an inflection point and that change is needed, we remain optimistic about the future. Look at what Alibaba and Tencent are doing in China. In our view, they are developing the type of retail that will take the world by storm and this offers hope for the high street.”
As part of the collaboration Bill and GDR have created a co-branded keynote speech for the speakers’ circuit explaining the decline in Britain’s high streets and offering a vision for a revolutionary new approach. For a copy of the updated Grimsey Review, click here.
Bill and Kate are both available for interviews about the challenges facing the high street and the future of retail.
